Competitors of Comedy Genre

Competitors of Comedy Genre

The competitor on the comedy genre that I have chosen for this game are only a few since we are narrowing down to the market of Virtual Reality. As I have said before that this genre is not really explored in the VR market yet, but it has the potential to become on of the well received titles. Here are the evidence of the genre that some competitors successfully sold it.

Here we have two virtual reality games that were developed by Owlchemy Labs. They are a video game developer based in Austin, Texas. The company was founded in 2010. Owlchemy is best known for its virtual reality video game Job Simulator and their latest one, Rick and Morty Simulator: Virtual Rick-ality. Both games are also using humor to entertain the player. For Job Simulator, much of the game's humor comes from both stereotypical and exaggerated situations in the jobs performed: as a chef, the player is asked to bribe a food critic and navigate around the particular allergies of an underage customer having a birthday.

And to my surprises, the company released a few titles for PS4 and Windows, but only 2 VR games were developed, and both also very successful. Job Simulator won the Best VR/AR Game award at the 2017 Game Developers ConferenceThis proves that humor is an unexplored genre and I hope to take this chance to show that it can be done.

As for the next company that uses comedy for their VR game, are Crows Crows Crows and Squanchtendo. William Pugh is a game designer best known for his work on The Stanley Parable. In 2015, he opened an indie game development studio, Crows Crows Crows. They developed a game called Accounting. It is a complimentary free VR game for players. while it is a free game and they did not earn any profits from it, but the reviews are very good due to the use of humor absurdity. Throughout the game, the player can interact with a variety of objects, which don't change the outcome of the game, and most characters will continue their dialogue indefinitely until the player did something to progress the game.

For now in Virtual Game Market, these are the few games that uses comedy genre to entertain the players. As for the distribution, indie company normally would go for digital copy rather than physical copy as it is easier to reach out to everyone and save cost. Usually they would provide a few choices on their official website to which platform the player wanted to purchase their game on.
