A New Direction
A New Direction
So what makes my game stand out from other similar VR games? Previously my proposed idea is a mystery solving VR game, which has been done quite a lot of times, so I thought to myself, what if I use this concept as the base but changing the genre instead? I've started brainstorming again and conduct more research on something unique and seldom explored ideas in the game medium. I was browsing through the Steam VR game list and realized the some of the well received game are purely based on absurd humor.
Comedy games is an unexplored genre, but certainly it is used in a few games like Saints Row franchise, Duke Nukem and a few less known titles. While those game might have some witty script writing, it is often used as the flavor rather than the main dish itself. As a blend of humor/adventure are still scarce in the VR landscape, I plan to use this chance to explore it.
For this week, I have come up with a new idea which can make my game even more interesting and stand out. I have consulted with with my mentor Zui and he had given me the green light to proceed with the new direction.

Rough ideas in comedy gameplay
scenarios include:
- Crime Scene: collecting obvious clues around the room
- Detective Eaves Dropping in diner: (Holding Newspaper) while u try to listen to
- Interrogation Room: Interrogating suspect in (using fear meter) Detective Detective Revolution
- Bomb defusing situation: with an ON/OFF switch somewhere
- Rooftop: Fight the mastermind (one gun with a bullet)
Sketches for my new Idea:
What makes your game stand out from other similar VR games?
- A blend of humor/adventure as it is scarce in the VR landscape.
- I attempt to develop a game without the needing of violence(shooter games) and focusing more on progressing through levels of interaction through objects in the environment. For example, Batman Arkham VR did a very good job in playing as a narrative game without using any guns.
- The detective solves all the problem in a humorous and absurd way for all the scenarios. (Adventure/Comedy).
- Funny dialogues are heavily utilised to give hints and stories.
- Each levels are funny and short. Each level confined within(2x1.5), don’t have to teleport around.
What the user achieved at the end?
- They will get a great introduction to VR as it doesn’t require them to teleport (virtual form of movement) and they get to taste the true form of immersion in the world of the game.
